Art + Design Slide Library
The Visual Resources Collection is a valuable resource to faculty in various areas of emphasis in the Art + Design Department. Primarily aimed at support of art history and appreciation courses within the department, studio and foundation faculty from other Art + Design buildings also make frequent use of its images and materials for their courses.
The Visual Resources Collection is located in Ellis Hall, Room 310, next to the departmental office. The majority of the Collection is composed of 35mm glass-mounted slides. Approximately 125,000 images are housed in 116 wooden and 2 Neumade metal cabinets, along with 9 Multiplex rack systems. Viewing individual slides is done on two large horizontal light tables conveniently located in the center of the Collection space. Above the wooden slide rows are colored check-out cards and retum spaces for slides to be refiled, one for each faculty user. Carousel slide trays are conveniently located within the Collection space, along with a sign-out sheet.
Study slides presented for test or paper assignments are located in lighted cabinets stretching across the end of the main hallway. These cabinets can accommodate up to 4 Multiplex racks at a time. Their location outside the Collection space makes them accessible at all times the building is open, rather than being limited to Collection hours.

~ Resources: 35mm Slides: The majority of the Collection's holdings is composed of 35mm glass mounted slides. These images support courses in all phases of art history, along with photo and graphic design history. Foundations and studio courses also use this main collection, supplemented by a large group of didactic images. In addition there are separate collections of slides from Foundations and Senior Exhibitions available. This collection grows annually, expanding to meet the needs of new and continuing courses.

~ Videotapes: The Collection also supports its courses with a variety of moving images. Most of the 100+ videos housed in the Collection are 1/2" VHS format, but there are a few 3/4" and 16mm films. Areas of specific interest include ceramics, art history & appreciation, photography, and foundation skills. In addition, there is a growing library of videos produced by digital imaging students as part of their senior exhibition.

~ CD References: The Collection has a small—but growing—collection of CD-ROM disks available to faculty for checkout.

~ Other Resources: The Collection maintains a small collection of works on postcards, along with resources aimed at the art education teacher, such as games and filmstrips. A new addition to our arsenal of resources includes a small digital camera, which is growing in popularity among the faculty.

~ Printed Reference Materials: The Collection has a small collection of reference materials, aimed primarily at the studio faculty. This also includes information on programs within/outside the state of Missouri, graduate programs, etc. This collection, however, is in addition to the much more extensive materials held in the Meyer Library, the main campus library resource.

Meyer Library
The Missouri State Meyer Library maintains an extensive collection of art and design periodicals as well as books relating to art and design history. The Library underwent a 25 million dollar renovation, completed in Fall 2002. Click on the link to the Library Homepage for more information.
